Pacanomad - Restless
It should also be noted that this is very much a rocking soul effort; think the passionate rock of Janis Joplin, and you'll have an idea of where this group draws its inspirations. Nobody will ever confuse Pacanomad with the retro soul of, say, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, though. Rivard's main musical foil is guitarist Nick Cifaldi, who takes a long, emotional solo to close out this album's title track. He follows this up with "Tell Me Not to Doubt," which is built upon and acoustic guitar intro. The track also features slightly funky rhythm interplay between bassist Dave Ball and Zack Stewart. The collection closes with a lovely little tune, "Till It's Mine," which switches back and forth between reggae and more standard rock.
These songs take on relatively standard romantic lyrical directions, yet are done so with intelligence and style. Pacanomad is sure to make Canada proud, right down to its soul.
