Concrete Class has an undeniable retro vibe from beginning to end. It's almost like this disc was sealed in a time capsule in the mid 70's and sat fermenting until 2009 when the capsule was opened up for our listening pleasure. The first track titled "Right Down To Me" was an odd choice for the opening of the disc but after a couple listens I think they got it just right. It's a slower song full of emotion with Mark Fredson's pleading vocals giving the song a soulful almost Allman Bro. type sound. The disc kicks it up a notch after that with "Cold Blues" a slight country, heavy blues influenced tune.
The 4th song call "Digging A Hole" is definitely one of my favorites with a classic rock sound. Some other great tunes on the disc would be "Singer" (think The Eagles) and "Going Out West" with the vintage rock sound again. I then came across a track titled "Girl From Jersey". As soon as this song started I knew I heard this tune before, I'm not trying to cause any drama but the first 10 or 15 seconds of this song sounds almost exactly like a song from Johnathan Rice called "What Am I going To Do" off his Further North album, maybe just coincidence but if you get a chance listen to these 2 songs and judge for yourself.
Bottom line is, I really enjoyed this disc. Concrete Class in its entirety has a deeply honest sound that's really easy to listen too with some very memorable tracks. If you enjoy any classic, vintage music I strongly urge you to give this disc a spin. I think you'll be pleased. I will now be checking out The Lonely H's first 2 albums to see how they match up to this one.
