Sirhan Sirhan - Blood Review

by J Simpson

.
You can some up Sirhan Sirhans debut album Blood by describing it as an angst filled collection of bitter punk metal. When I say angst filled I'm talking from start to finish. These three young Midwest boys seem to have a lot of anger to get off their chest so they've filled a disc with 11 tracks of shall we say ultra violence (yes I took that from A Clockwork Orange).

Sirhan Sirhan is made up of Jason Blackmore (vocals/guitar), Mike Johnston (bass, backing vocals) and Alex Organ (drums). One thing you realize after hearing this disc is that these 3 guys don't just make music, they cram it down your throat. Blood plays out in its entirety at only a little over 25 minutes but be careful as each song ends and you start to catch your breath without hesitation the next nasty tune hits you right between the eyes and before you know it the disc is over and your player turns calmingly silent. That's where I'm at as I write this, the album is through and there is an eerie silence that seems to heal the damage that Sirhan has done to my feeble conscious.

One of the bands Sirhan Sirhan has been compared to is Bad Brains or The Butthole Surfers, well maybe The Butthole Surfers on speed and angel dust. Their music has a place in the industry, it's a little hardcore for me as my angry youth has long faded but if you're interested at all in the type of music I've described give Sirhan Sirhan a listen, this may be just what you're looking for.
