Downtown 81 Soundtrack Review

by Patrick Muldowney

.
Downtown 81 is a soundtrack filled with quality music, but, as a whole, it is unlistenable. Basquiat embellished all of New York art, and the music world at the time was a mix of post-disco pop, no wave, new wave, hip hop, and artsy oddness. Listening to such diversity in one sitting is difficult to stomach, unless it is a nostalgic representation of the late 70s, early 80s experience native to New York City. If someone tells you they listen to everything, as many of America's more unoriginal music fans will claim, pop in Downtown 81 and truly test that theory. Otherwise, make use of that mp3 player and cut 'n paste the most suitable tracks.

Tracks added to iPod: Cavern Liquid Liquid, I'm a Doggy Marvin Pontiac, Cheree Suicide, Copy The Plastics, 81 Mele Mel
