The Coast Review

by Sherrill Fulghum

.
This quartet from north of the border is comprised of brothers Jordan and Luke Melchione, Ian Fasberg, and Benjamin Spurr. The group that is known as The Coast today started out as The July 26th Movement.

The band whose music is labeled Alternative is more on the line with the Icelandic band Sigur Ros or fellow countrymen and Toronto residents Madrid. While not quite the laid back chill out sound of some New Age bands, The Coast is more like New Age for rock and rollers.

The latest musical contribution from The coast is a six song CD - more of an EP than a full CD with only 24 minutes of playing time.

A close listen to drummer Jordan Melchione will show that he is more than just keeping a beat, he actually has a part in the make up of the music. With the music of The Coast it is like an orchestra whose parts alone make no sense but once they are all put together into one part it forms a logical price of music worthy of the efforts to play and listen to. And indeed worth the effort to find.
