Trashlight Vision - Alibis and Ammunition Review

by J Simpson

.
Punk Rock music has a very storied past. Dating as far back as the 1970s where bands like The Ramones, The Clash, and The Sex Pistols stumbled upon a sound that touched a chord with the angst filled teenage generation. The sound was anti authoritarian, promoted rebellion and individualism accompanied with bitter sulky lyrics, but the music was very simple and stripped down with sometimes just 3 aggressive chords repeating without any long solos or major breaks in the tempo throughout the song.

Over thirty years later the sound of punk rock has changed and evolved through time, branching off in many different directions along with the definition of punk as its not so easy to single out a band anymore and say they are true "Punk Rock". Trashlight Vision is a glimmer of hope to all the true hardcore punk rock fans because their debut album "Alibis and Ammunition" is about as Punk Rock as Punk Rock can be.

Acey Slade, the former guitarist of Murderdolls formed Trashlight Vision in 2004 and after 2 very successful independent EP's that quickly sold out the band knew they had something so they set to crafting their first album Alibis and Ammunition which they released on July 10th. The 12 song collection starts off with opening track Dead Waves On the Air consisting of nasty stinging guitar riffs, pounding drums and Aceys screeching howling voice which sounds a lot like Blackie Lawless of WASP from back in the day. Other recommended tracks would be Allergic To You, Nola and I Can't Wait. All their music is pretty vicious with the needed punk attitude through the whole album and while the lyrics maybe kind of cheesy the actual feeling the music emits makes up for it. After listening to the collection a few times I noticed I felt pissed off each time I listened to the disc, I don't know why, it's just the emotion the music unconsciously puts you in.

Bottom line is, if this is an example of the place that true hardcore punk is in the 21st century then all you punks rejoice because Trashlight Vision has shown in this album that Punk Rock is still relevant and as edgy as ever.
