Everyday Atlas - Your Move Review

by Sherrill Fulghum

.
Everyday Atlas is a quartet of musicians from the country music capitol city of Nashville, Tennessee who began collaborating in college. As the name suggests band members sing about everyday affairs and events. Everyday Atlas sites Sir Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Elvis Costello, and Hall and Oates among their influences. And while the band is definitely pop rockers, like their musical influences their music is musically sound and not a bunch of dribble.

Everyday Atlas carries two vocalists which adds to the band's versatility in music. The two voices blend well together; as well as, providing two distinct sounds to the songs.

"Your Move" is the debut album from Everyday atlas. It is a collection of eleven pop rock tunes of good music with a few surprises thrown in. At the end of the opening track "Take Me Home" is a few measures of "Joy, Jesu of Man's Desiring" from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. "Hand Around" is the beautifully crafted slow piece that shows off how well the voices of Ryan Thies and Danny Tran blend together. "Stardust" has the same title as the classic standard but is not the same song. This song tells of how we all come from the same place star stuff - as in from space.

The album "Your Move" from Everyday Atlas is solid from beginning to end. In fact they saved the best for last with "Looking Back" which shows off bass player Jonathan Price with some very cool rifts.
