Crowded House - Time on Earth Review

by Sherrill Fulghum

.
A group of eighties pop rockers from Down Under are the latest in a string of bands to re-unite. Crowded House played their final show in 1997 before over 100,000 fans at the Sydney Opera House in their homeland. An album of songs from that concert was released earlier this year to commemorate the tenth anniversary; the band followed soon after with a new release of their own titled "Time on Earth". The album contains 14 new and original tunes. While the album leans toward the softer side of rock and in somewhat similar in style to "Days of Future Passed" by The Moody Blues" or "Dark Side of the Moon" by Pink Floyd, "Time on Earth" is distinctly Crowded House. Not all of the original members have returned but the band is still the same musically and better than ever. "Time on Earth" continues some beautifully crafted pieces that at times even sound like a symphony with lyrics.

In 1993 Queen Elizabeth II awarded Crowded House founding members and brothers Time and Neil Finn each an Order of the British Empire (OBE) for their contributions to the arts.
