Neurotica, the Florida hard rock powerhouse and long time antiMUSIC favorite is preparing to take things to the next level.
All My Friends Crush You, the first single from their forthcoming album went to hard rock radio last week and started getting immediate airplay not only from hard rock radio outlets by the single was picked up by many active rock stations as well. (They didnt even have to ask the active rock stations to play the song!)
The band was founded by former Atheist vocalist Kelly Shaeferand and guitarist Shawn Bowen in 1995. Two years later they were discovered in a small Florida club by AC/DC frontman, Brian Johnson, who loved what he heard so much he lined up an indie label deal for the group and produced their debut album Seed. Seed was meet with rave reviews from metal circles and the band looked like they were ready to hit the big time. Unfortunately, the distributor their label was using went out of business shortly after the album was released, so with no way to get the album in the stores, the momentum the band had been building received a devastating blow.
The band remained determined and returned to the studio to record the follow up to Seed with producer Doug Kaye, the resulting album Living in Dog Years showed the group growing musically by leaps and bounds and even earned Neurotica our 1999 Album of the Year Award. But there is only so much a small indie label can do to get the word out about music. As luck would have it, an organization with the monetary and marketing resources needed to break things into the big time was planning to enter the record business. So with the birth of the WWFs Smackdown Records, the new label was on the lookout for new bands to sign and were lucky enough to score a home run their first time to bat by discovering Neurotica.
Since Living in Dog Years never hit the critical masses it should have it was decided for the groups Smackdown Records self-titled debut that they would take the best tracks off the Living in Dog Years album, go into the studio with producer Doug Kaye and reknowned mixer Kevin Shirley (Black Crowes, Aerosmith, Soil) to re-record and mix them to create a new vibe plus add the best of the new tracks the band had written since LIDY was released.
Neuroticas new self titled album will be released June 25th on Smackdown / Koch Records and the band will be hitting the road in support of the album in July as part of Ozzfest 2002.
You can get a sneak peak at the new music on the bands website as well as on the "Forceable Entry" compilation from Columbia/Sony that also features tracks from Kid Rock, Drowning Pool, Marilyn Manson, Steromud, Creed, Disturbed, Rob Zombie, Limp Bizkit, Sevendust, Our Lady Peace, Saliva, Dope, Cypress Hill and others.
Also keep an eye out here for special coverage on the band when the album hits stores, weve got some cool things planned to go along with the album release so stay tuned and remember where you heard of Neurotica first!
