Sir Ozzy? Well things havent gone
quite that far, YET! But the metal madman and godfather of heavy metal
did get to rock Queen Elizabeth II and the British Royal family Monday
night during the allstar Golden Jubilee pop concert which also featured
performances from Queens Brian May, Sir Paul McCartney and Eric Clapton.
Some were concerned going in that Ozzy might resort to some of the antics that helped give him his infamous reputation, but Ozzy promised to be on his best behavior for the Queen, "I don't want to spend the rest of my life in the Tower," Ozzy told the national news agency Press Association before he took the stage Monday night. "I mustn't drop my trousers, no | ........ | "Heavy
metal at the palace? I'm not sure whether the queen is a fan, but obviously
she must be." Ozzy Osbourne
|
Despite all the craziness of Ozzys career, Osbourne said that playing for the Queen at Buckingham Palace was the highlight of his career.
"Absolutely, this means more to me than anything. These last six months, I've had such good fortune land my way," he said. "I keep thinking that sooner or later the bubble will burst. My wife, Sharon, keeps saying, 'You're one of those guys who's not happy unless you find a dark cloud.'"
When his wife Sharon first told him he was invited to perform at the palace, Ozzy thought she was joking, "I'm more surprised than anybody else that I'm here. My wife told me and I thought, 'You're pulling my leg.' Heavy metal at the palace? I'm not sure whether the queen is a fan, but obviously she must be."
And according to reports Ozzy did rock the house with a earsplitting rendition of the classic Black Sabbath tune Paranoid. Ozzy didnt even wait for comedian Lenny Henry to finish introducing him as he bounded out on the stage like an excited child yelling, "Rock 'n' roll! Rock 'n' roll!"
AP reports, As his song ended and fireworks exploded around the stage, Prince Harry and Prince William, Queen Elizabeth II's grandsons, were clapping above their heads and smiling from the royal box.
So it does appear that Ozzy Rocked the Queen! Could a knighting be next? Who knows in the crazy world Ozzy lives in but you can bet last year he never expected to be a sitcom star, meet the American President and play for the Queen.
