In 1996 Warner Bros. Records and the members of Van Halen signed a new contract that raised the royalty rate to be paid to the group for their catalog of music released by the label.
Roth claims that the 1996 contract was put into effect without his knowledge and he accused Warner Bros and Van Halen of executing the new deal as a "plan to divert royalties" due to him. Roth says that he is entitled to 25% of Van Halen's royalties under the contract he signed with the band when he left in 1986.
Roth is suing for damages to be determined at the trial.
