Now that they've had two months to rest after touring with bands such as Live, Counting Crows, Vast and Goudie, UNIFIED THEORY--lead singer/guitarist CHRIS SHINN; guitarist CHRISTOPHER THORN; bassist BRAD SMITH; and drummer DAVE KRUSEN-are getting ready to hit the road again. This time it'll be for a round of West Coast headlining shows starting February 12 in Santa Cruz, CA and concluding March 1 in San Diego, CA. 

This trek comes in time to promote the band's newly-released second single "Wither" from their self-titled 3:33/Universal debut album. The song, which was one of the most added tracks to alternative radio its first week out, is a moving plea for help from one friend to another who's addicted to drugs. With lyrics such as "A miracle is what I'm asking/To take away the spike and spoon I see you sweatin'/And open up to the world you're missing/If just for a day/And so I'll sit and watch you wither on by," one would think UNIFIED THEORY are talking about Blind Melon's singer, Shannon Hoon, who died of a cocaine overdose in 1995. This is not the case. 

As former Blind Melon member/bassist BRAD SMITH explains, "The song was poignantly inspired by a friend who was going down the same path as Shannon, but it's not directly about Shannon. The message is quite haunting. Living your life around hard drugs is a dead end...sometimes literally. The coolest thing about 'Wither' is CHRIS SHINN's beautiful guitar part that had us doing back flips in the rehearsal space when we were writing it." CHRIS SHINN elaborates, "'Wither' is a song about watching someone you love slowly hit their personal bottom and not being able to help in his or her path. Some people simply won't let you in to help and will have to deal with their demons alone before they can make any sort of steps toward healing. I think everyone has, on some level, dealt with this. I wish this song was an answer."
