Singled Out: Sierra Blanca's Book
.
Indie folk artist Sierra Blanca recently released a new single called "Book" and to celebrate we asked mastermind Jethro Gaglione to tell us about the track. Here is the story: I wrote "Book" towards the beginning of the year, when I felt like there was a sense of gloom and depression in people around me. It mostly had to do with social injustice constantly all over the news, disappointment in politicians, the government, and just how things were going in the U.S. in general. I've never really been a huge fan of writing direct political messages in my songs, but I think some of that came through on this song, at least between the lines. The first thing I wrote in this song as a whole was actually the guitar riff at the beginning. The chorus kind of came with time and I knew I wanted to really highlight the lyrics and vocals themselves, which is why I dropped out a lot of the instruments in the first chorus. In the scope of the EP as a whole, "Book" was the last song I wrote for it. I literally finished the last line of lyrics in the vocal booth before laying down the tracks. It's one of my favorite tracks off of the EP and I've been super happy with how \well it has been received. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself here and learn more about Sierra Blanca right here!
