Singled Out: Tara Macri's Home
. ![]() Rising pop star Tara Macri just released her new single entitled "Home" and to celebrate we asked her to share the deeply personal story behind the ballad with us. Here is the story: I wrote "home" for a friend who passed away unexpectedly. I was in Chicago doing a show at the time and really wanted to write something for him. The piano melody came pretty quick but the rest took some time. I really wanted to let him know that wherever he was, I will always hold him in my heart. It wasn't till I was in a session a year later with a friend Jaylene Johnson that we finished it. This was not a song I was planning on releasing ever it was something that I needed to get out. Then the opportunity came to work along Metal Health Organizations and help give back to a cause I really care about and was close to me. The recording process was a lot of fun. I was visiting home at the time (Toronto) and decided to record it at The Orange Lounge Studio. I played it for the producer of the studio Darren Barry who helped make it all happen. He brought in the talented Sean Nimmons-Paterson to play piano and the incredible Simon Huber on Cello. It didn't take that long to record maybe a couple days all together in the studio. Side note- I am usual in LA when recording my songs so the fun part was my dad Gary Macri (who was a drummer back in the day) got to come hang out at the studio. Having him there while we recorded was really special. I have been trying to get him to play on one of my songs and one day it will happen! I feel like we all have experienced and will continue to experience loss in our lives, but my hope is that through song, the pain can soften a little more quickly and fonder memories can endure. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself right here!
