David Bowie's Art Collection To Be Displayed and Auctioned
.
(Radio.com) A fan of all forms of artistic expression, David Bowie amassed an extensive private art collection of over 400 works before he died. This winter the late artist's collection will be displayed, then sold at auction. Bowie owned more than 200 paintings from famous British 20th century artists, including Frank Auerbach, Damien Hirst, Henry Moore and Graham Sutherland. Sotheby's will display the works publicly for the first time in November, then the pieces will be sold in a three-part auction that is expected to bring in more than $13 million, reported Billboard. "Art was, seriously, the only thing I'd ever wanted to own," Bowie told the New York Times in 1998. 'It can change the way that I feel in the mornings," Billboard reported. The Bowie/Collector collection will be on display from November 1 to 10. Read more here. Radio.com is an official news provider for antiMusic.com. |
