'I was sitting by the fireplace in our living room, and I think my mom and dad were in the kitchen, cooking dinner or something," she told The Boot. 'I started coming up with the run, the intro of the song, and immediately, that first line came to me: 'Four years old, running up the stairs to your bed.' I was just thinking about my dad, and so I knew that was going to be a song about my dad."

The song has a hopeful message with Ashley singing, "Daddy, don't you worry, I'll do the remembering." However, the the reality of her father's condition is still on her mind.
