Tim McGraw Talks Country Music and 'Damn Country Music'

(Radio.com) Tim McGraw has released his latest album, Damn Country Music. An odd title for a country singer, but he says it comes from his love for the genre that he's spent his entire career in "For me, the album, when you listen to it, it sort of encompasses my atmosphere of music that I make and I think it probably has a little piece of everything that I've ever done musically on the entire album. So I think that's why the title, this is sort of my country music, this is what country music has meant to me, this is what country music means to me and this is the country music that I make.

That said, he feels it runs the gamut on country music: "You can listen to this record and there's a lot of different sort of styles on it. My path as an artist is right down the middle of it. You can see my influences that I had and the influences that I have now and the stuff that I listen to, the music that I listen to and you could sort of find the core of what I do along the way as well."

And that said, there's no lyrical thread running through Damn Country Music. "There's not really a theme throughout the album. I don't think you can say this song relates to this song, or this song relates to this song or anything like that. Each song sort of tells it's own story but when you look at it across sort of a landscape, it's sort of life in passing in a lot of ways." Read more here.
