Lady Gaga And Friends Covers Van Halen's 'Panama'

(Radio.com) Lady Gaga has never been one to shy away from a cover song, whether it is John Lennon's "Imagine," "Stand By Me," or The Sound of Music on the Academy Awards. But none of those could quite prepare audiences for a major departure for the pop star: covering Van Halen.

This cover of "Panama" wasn't exactly Gaga's doing, as it was during a show of her long-time friends, the band the Dirty Pearls, at New York's Gramercy Theater.

For the majority of the clip, Gaga dances around in her underwear, happy to provide the cover song's much needed '80s attitude. But a couple minutes in, Gaga gets her chance to sing, falling short of both faithfulness and inspiration.

Where Gaga excelled was in her antics, particularly her headbanging. Mid-way through the clip, Gaga forms a make-shift huddle with a couple of the band members, shaking her bleach-blonde hair to the anthemic song's rhythm. And if that wasn't enough, she also spit some sipped liquid at the crowd, losing a few punk points for gently throwing the open container into the audience, rather than tossing it with abandon.
