'Eight Is Enough' Father Dick Van Patten Dead at 86
. America knew him as the patriarch on TV series Eight Is Enough, which ran from 1977 to 1981. But the comedian also worked with the beloved Mel Brooks on screwball movie comedies including Spaceballs and Robin Hood: Men In Tights. More recently, Van Patten made guest appearances on The Sarah Silverman Program on Comedy Central and TV Land's Hot in Cleveland, which costars Betty White. Van Patten was born in 1928 in Kew Gardens, N.Y., a suburb outside of New York City, and made his debut as a child actor at age 7 in the Broadway show Tapestry in Gray. Read more here.
