(Radio.com) According to reports, Paul McCartney has been hospitalized in Japan following the cancellation of his Asian tour. The former Beatle reportedly has a virus infection, which caused his eventual hospitalization, USA Today reports. According to the Sankei Sports newspaper in Japan, he was admitted when the infection worsened.

McCartney originally canceled tour dates in Japan and South Korea earlier this week, the cause for the nixing of the dates deemed, again, a virus. "I was really looking forward to playing in Tokyo again after we had such an amazing time here in November," McCartney had said in a statement.

"So to cancel this show as well as the National Stadium shows is hugely disappointing for me as well. I'd like to thank my Japanese fans for their love, messages of support and understanding."

A spokesperson for the singer also noted that the canceled dates were being worked on for possible rescheduling. McCartney's website confirmed the news on Thursday, "Since contracting a virus last week that led to the postponement of tour dates, Paul received successful medical treatment at a hospital in Tokyo." more on this story
