(Radio.com) Soundgarden's classic 1994 album, Superunknown, was their commercial breakthrough, yielding a huge mainstream hit with "Black Hole Sun." The album, with its rock radio friendly sound, also introduced the band to a whole new audience.

One of those people was then-Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, who spoke about the album and "Black Hole Sun" in a video that was posted to Soundgarden's official YouTube page.

Grohl says his first reaction to the album was, "Holy s-t! This is gonna be huge! It was the perfect meeting of the Beatles And Black Sabbath. Which is what I think we put in our Nirvana bio: We sound like ABBA and Black Sabbath, or [like] the Beatles and Black Sabbath. But I don't think that that had ever successfully been paired until that record and, in particular, that song."

In 2004, Grohl collaborated with Soundgarden's guitarist Kim Thayil on the Probot project, which had Grohl producing tracks for various legendary metal vocalists (Thayil played guitar on two tracks). Most recently, Grohl directed the video for Soundgarden's "By Crooked Steps," from their latest album 2012′s King Animal. Check out the video.
