Update: Gwar's manager Jack Flanagan of Issachar Entertainment/ Slave Pit Inc. confirmed early Monday morning that Gwar frontman Dave Brockie died on Sunday (March 26th).

He says in a statement, "It is with a saddened heart, that I confirm my dear friend Dave Brockie, artist, musician, and lead singer of GWAR passed away at approximately 6:50 PM EST Sunday March 23,2014.?

"His body was found Sunday by his band mate at his home in Richmond, VA. Richmond authorities have confirmed his death and next of kin has been notified.? A full autopsy will be performed.? He was 50 years old, born August 30, 1963."

Here is our original report: There are unconfirmed reports that larger than life Gwar frontman David Brockie a.k.a Oderus Urungus was found dead at his home in Virginia on Sunday night (March 23rd).

The reports originated with a story published by Style Weekly, which quoted their writer and former Gwar member Chris Bopst as saying "I wish it was a joke" and added "Everyone is in shock."

The website later updated the report claiming that an unnamed "member of the Richmond Police Department confirms that a 50-year-old musician was found dead in his home between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. by his roommate."

Richmond police spokeswoman Dionne Waugh told local paper Times Dispatch that "officers were called to a residence in the 4800 block of West Seminary Avenue at 6:53 p.m. Sunday for a report of a dead person. Officers found Brockie dead inside, Waugh said."

The Gwar camp has neither confirmed nor denied the report but Australian music site The Music.com.au reports that the band's management will be issuing a statement later today.

Some members of the Gwar inner circle have reportedly confirmed the reports. Original Gwar guitarist Steve Douglas wrote on his Facebook page "I have had a few bad days in my life but this one truly ranks right up there... Dave Brockie, I do not know what happened to you yet, but I know you are gone and it is hurting very badly!"

Douglas also posted the following comment at themusic.com.au at 3:30 am EST on Monday, "it is true, I have talked to many of his and my best friends in Richmond VA, his room-mate found him dead about 3 hours ago...makes me sick, seriously one of my best friends ever. I am so glad we got to talk when they were in Australia. Dave and I played together in Death Piggy and started GWAr together, and I can tell you there was not a better man on the planet!"

Lamb of God frontman Randall Blythe wrote on Instagram: "I got a very sad call tonight from my buddy Chris Bopst, who was one of the original members of GWAR- my friend Dave Brockie, AKA Oderus Urungus, the singer of GWAR, has left the building & taken off back to his home planet.

"He was 50 years old. I do not know details of why he died yet, just that he passed away at home & his roommates found him. When someone dies, a lot of the time people will say 'Oh, he was a unique person, really one of a kind, a true original'- most of these people no idea of what they are talking about- they obviously had never met Dave. Dave TRULY WAS ONE OF A KIND- I can't think of ANYONE even remotely like him. That's VERY HARD TO SAY.

"My band learned how to become a real touring band from GWAR- they gave us out first shot at this thing. I learned many things from Dave, many of which I am eternally grateful for, and some of which I am deeply ashamed of. I took this picture at his birthday party a few months ago- Dave kissing his Oderous birthday cake.

"Right now, if I were to truly honor Dave in the way HE would do it if it were ME that had died, I would make a completely tasteless joke about his death. But I do not have the stomach for that- Dave would, but not me. He never put much stock in 'limits'. Richmond, VA has lost one of its most creative people. This is a crying shame to me.

"Thank you Brockie, for all the crazy sh*t you did- thank God you existed, so you could do it and I didn't have to. It was an honor to know you, to be your Shaky Slave, to serve in the Blood Vomits along side you (let's ride!), and to be soaked by your sweet cuttlefish. RIP Dave Brockie. Oderous, enjoy your trip back home."

We will publish an update once a statement had been released from the band or their management.
