The Rutles Return

02/26/2014
.
(Classic Rock) The Rutles have confirmed a UK tour on which they'll aim to prove they've "never grown up and never got any less silly". The Pre-Fab four, stars of 1978 mockumentary film All You Need Is Cash, will bring their Beatles spoof act to 18 venues in May.

The Rutles were created as a fictional band by Monty Python star Eric Idle and Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band member Neil Innes for the TV series Rutland Weekend Television, before achieving success in their own right. Their actual musical output never included Idle.

In a suitably madcap press release they say: "It is hereby agreed that, in as much as two (2) of the Artistes heretofore and informally known as 'The Rutles', 'The Pre-Fab Four' (4), or 'Dirk, Nasty, Stig and Barry', shall be appearing live and in person as 'Themselves' (namely Neil and John) and whilst they are appearing as 'Themselves' they do so solemnly and without prejudice hereby undertake to use their best endeavours not to make frivolous use of any former silly name, no matter whomsoever, whatsoever, whenever, for ever and ever." more on this story
