(Radio.com) From Rick James to Daft Punk to Steely Dan and Can, Kanye West has never shied away from using samples, no matter the recognizability or the artist involved. So when Aphex Twin's music showed up on multiple tracks on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, everyone probably assumed that the samples were legit and cleared.

Not so, says Aphex Twin, aka Richard D. James, who is currently providing rare interviews in support of his upcoming album, SYRO, due on September 23 via Warp.

James spoke to Pitchfork and painted a picture of a less-than-kind team Kanye approaching him about the sample ("Avril 14th" from his album Drukqs), and then cutting him out of the equation.

"Is it a sample?" asks James. "I actually don't know what it ended up being in the end, I'm so slack. I know that he tried to f--g rip me off and claim that he'd written it, and they tried to get away with not paying."

"I was really helpful, and when they first sent it to me," he continues here.
