Lorde Finally Meets the Baseball Player Who Inspired 'Royals'

(Radio.com) Sure Lorde's hit song "Royals" was inspired by hip-hop and all its references to expensive alcohol, beautiful clothes and even more beautiful cars. But what really spawned the track was a photo in National Geographic of Kansas City Royals third baseman, George Brett.

The photo, which was taken by photographer Ted Spiegel, appeared in an article about Kansas City in July 1976 and shows Brett signing baseballs for a crowd of fans. Lorde said the word "Royals" on his jersey struck a chord with her and inspired her to write the song.

But even though she's been telling this story to everyone, she hadn't gotten a chance to meet her muse. That is until now. On Tuesday (April 16), Brett met with Lorde before her show in Las Vegas. And from the looks of the photo, they're already old friends.

Check out the photo and read more here.
