Legal Battle Over Use of Van Halen Name
. According to the report, Alex Van Halen was married to his second wife Kelly Carter for twelve years beginning in 1984 and now, almost two decades after the couple divorced, the band's intellectual property holding company ELVH Inc is taking legal action against Alex's former wife for her use of the Van Halen name in trade. ELVH Inc filed a lawsuit in California federal court and is reportedly objecting to Kelly's filing of two trademark applications for the use of "Kelly Van Halen" for use in business. According to the report, she has used the name for her construction and interior design company, which ELVH claims is an infringement of their trademark. Read the Hollywood Reporter story for more details, including some details about the previous Supreme Court ruling which may touch upon this case.
