Singled Out: Sarah Miles' Stand Up
. Hello! The last two years have been a whirlwind of activity for me. My focus has been completely centered on making my first full length album, and it was finally released in July of this year. I am thrilled with the outcome and the kind reviews. I can't thank my fans enough for embracing this album. It means the world to me. One of my favorite tracks on the album is called, "Stand Up". It came about with my desire to write an upbeat, inspirational song; one that gives you the feeling that anyone can conquer the world. I was lucky enough to co-write this tune with not only a great friend, but also a wonderfully talented musician, Matt Duke. We got together about a year ago to do some writing and this was one of the songs that came to life. We were just chatting and catching up when he asked, "What kind of song do you want to write about today?" And I responded by saying, "I want to write a happy song that I can turn up loud and dance around in my room"and that is exactly what happened! I tend to gravitate towards slower songs and ballads, so I was really excited to step out of my box and write something more positive. We began playing around with some chords on the guitar, trying to find an upbeat tempo with "happier" chords. As soon as we felt comfortable with our chord progressions, we started working on melodies and lyrics. I have learned so much about myself while as a musician and songwriter over the last few years. The business end of music can be tough, as many in the industry feel their way is the only way to do things. Too many opinions can lead to mess. So, I have learned to tune out some of the comments and stay true to my own artistic style. Being true to oneself is really the way to go. I want to keep the music pure and real. That is basically what "Stand Up" is about. It's up to you to make your path in life. Listen to others, be kind to others, but at the end of the day, be true to who you are and do what you want to do. Life is gift and so is music. I am so grateful to do what I do. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
