Thirty Seconds To Mars Releasing Documentary About Label Battle
. The doc, which the band began promoting back in 2010 and won the Toronto International Film Festival's BlackBerry People's Choice Documentary Award in 2012, will be available on demand through iTunes, Amazon and several other platforms via independent distributor, FilmBuff on Dec. 5. Despite being in the promotional mode for his role in Dallas Buyers Club, 30STM frontman Jared Leto is happy that his fans will finally have a chance to see what really happened after the band broke ties with EMI, who in 2008 sued the band for $30 million dollars for alleged breach of contract and damages. Leto also directed Artifact under his Bartholomew Cubbins pseudonym, which he uses in his various 30STM video projects. "We had sold a lot of records with an album called A Beautiful Lie. It had a song called 'The Kill' on it that was really obviously a really big song for us. We toured the world, we sold millions, we can make and found out that not only would we never be paid a single penny but that we were actually in debt," Leto explained in an interview with KROQ (a Radio.com station) morning show hosts, Kevin & Bean. "So we started to look into it and we started to fight to be treated fairly and we filmed everything." Check out the trailer for Artifact here.
