One Direction Named Britain's Most Influential Tweeters
. The PeerIndex list revealed that the five members of 1DLiam Payne, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Maliktook the top five positions, in that order, followed by fellow musician Ed Sheeran and Prime Minister David Cameron following in seventh place. "As Twitter has become more mainstream, the top 140 starts to resemble the contours of popular culture and power, the footballers, politicians and boy bands," PeerIndex founder Azeem Azhar told The Guardian. "However, social media's democratising effects still allow those with challenging, well-defined or interesting views to build influence." Azhar cited independent media stars, like Marius Listhrop, a dancer and friend of Payne's, and radio personality, Dan Howell, along with authors like Owen Jones and Caitlin Moran as people who fit in that category. The 3rd Annual PeerIndex surveyed top tweeters in the UK and the amount of influence each user has on others in the UK. more on this story Radio.com is an official news provider for antiMusic.com.
