Rolling Stones Story Told In 50 Songs

(Gibson) An authority on the Rolling Stones has compiled back stories to 50 songs that chronicle the band's career. Hitting book stores this week, Rocks Off: 50 Tracks That Tell the Story of the Rolling Stones was written by Bill Janovitz, frontman for the alternative band Buffalo Tom.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Janovitz said he was drawn to the project because it was more about the music than a straight-up biography. He cited "Respectable," from the Stones classic 1978 Some Girls album, as an example of how he approached the book, saying the track was "about [the Stones] reclaiming their rock & roll rebellion thing when the threat of punk was being taken pretty seriously by rock fans."

"I hadn't anticipated becoming the Stones authority,'" Janovitz added. "I really wanted to write about the specifics of what I love, how things work. I have all this inside information from being in the studio all these years. It wasn't a difficult pitch." more on this story
