Disney Confirms Plans For Stand-Alone Star Wars Movies
. Disney recently acquired the Star Wars franchise and hired director J.J. Abrams to direct a new trilogy in the sci-fi saga. Iger addressed rumors that they are also planning stand-alone films which will not be part of the trilogy during an interview on CNBC on Tuesday (Feb. 5). "We are working on a few standalone films," he Iger. "[Lawrence] Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are both working on films derived from great Star Wars characters." The stand-alone films will run along side the upcoming trilogy, Star Wars episodes 7, 8 and 9. With films in the trilogy being released every three years beginning in 2015 with some of stand alone films being released between movies from the trilogy. "We plan to make 'Star Wars' 7, 8 and 9 over roughly a six-year period of time starting in 2015," the chief said. "But there are going to be a few other films released in that period of time, too."
