Metallica's Lars Ulrich Keeping His Day Job

. (Gibson) Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich may be taking a few weeks off from hitting the skins to delve into acting, but that doesn't mean he's giving up music for good. Far from it. Ulrich says that although he thoroughly enjoyed his role in the new HBO movie Hemingway & Gellhorn, premiering Monday, May 28 (9 p.m. ET/PT), his first love is music.

"Music is my main thing, so heading away to a place like, say, Iceland for a shoot would never work for me," Ulrich told USA Today, while he was taking a break from rehearsal for summer concerts in Europe and the U.S., including Metallica's debut Orion Music + More festival. "But this was Phil [Kaufman, director], this was San Francisco, and this was six weeks total. No-brainer."

As for his HBO acting role, Ulrich plays Dutch documentarian Joris Ivens, whose work chronicling the Spanish Civil War attracted Ernest Hemingway and Martha Gellhorn (played by Clive Owen and Nicole Kidman) to the Iberian Peninsula in the late the 1930s. more on this story
