Eban Schletter 21st Century Doomsday Spectacular Coming Next Month
. The composer/songwriter best known for his work on Mr. Show with Bob and David, SpongeBob SquarePants, Drawn Together and his creative collaborations with comedian Paul F. Tompkins, has released a stream of eclectic concept albums over the years and The 21st Century Doomsday Spectacular may be the most offbeat one to date. And this if from the guy who gave us the very scary Eban Schletter's Witching Hour, the spooky soundtracks to Michael Avallone's Tales of The Frightened and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and, of course, that seasonal sensation Eban Schletter's Cosmic Christmas. Schletter's 21st Century Doomsday Spectacular is a raw, funny and at times haunting journey through the frets and insecurities of the new modern age. Anger is filtered though humor in songs like "My Opinion" and the bouncy "I Can't Find a Toy for My Baby" (inspired by his real-life experience with toys recalled for lead content). Introspection emerges in the vocal layers of songs like "I Don't Know Why" and "Figures". And he is utterly frank, and funny, with "The Truth about Drugs," the the consumer consciousness raising "Crap" as well as "Thinking about Anti-Homosexuality" for which there's now a Youtube video. Eban Schletter will celebrate the release of this new album with a special edition of his live show Fantastical Musicorium in Los Angeles at the Center For Inquiry's Steve Allen Theater on Tuesday July 3d.
