. Wells broke all the rules in 1952 when her hit song, "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels" saw her become the first female country singer to have a U.S. #1. The Tennessean reported that country singer Lee Ann Womack said: "She paved the way for generations after her and really made a mark for women in country. It's a tough business for women.
