Paul McCartney Plays Tribute to Jim Marshall
. Metallica's Kirk Hammett has also paid tribute to Marshall's amplifiers. "A Marshall amp had a clarity, a punch, a low end and had a type of distortion that wasn't around before Jim Marshall invented it," Kirk said in an interview with the New York Times. The U.K's Download festival has also named its main stage for 2012 after Marshall. Organizer Andy Copping said, "The music industry lost an innovator and a legend with the sad passing of Jim Marshall.
