Dream Theater Announce New Drummer

. (Gibson) Dream Theater have announced that their new drummer will be Mike Mangini. He is known for his work with Steve Vai, Extreme, Annihilator and Dream Theater vocalist James LaBrie. He's also held five World's Fastest Drummer records.

"It took my brain a minute just to assemble what was going on," Mangini said about the emotional conversation in which he was welcomed into the band.

"The Spirit Carries On" series featured the prog metal giants auditioning seven potential replacements for Portnoy. The drummers in contention were Aquiles Priester (Angra, Paul Di'Anno), Peter Wildoer (Darkane), Virgil Donati (Planet X, Seven the Hardway), Derek Roddy (Hate Eternal, Nile, Today is the Day), Thomas Lang (John Wetton, Robert Fripp, Glenn Hughes), Marco Minnemann (Kreator, Necrophagist, Ephel Duath, Joe Satriani) and Mangini. more on this story
