Green Day's Billy Joe Armstrong To Star in American Idiot Movie
. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the movie will be directed by Michael Mayer, the same man who directed the musical. Tom Hank's Playtone company will produce the film, and Armstrong will play St. Jimmy, the drug dealing main character in the story. Gary Goetzman from Playtone is optimistic that a musical can work on the big screen: "Mamma Mia! proved that if the musical is right, obviously it can go into the stratosphere, as far as box office gross. We're always looking for musicals." The film version of American Idiot will probably be released in 2013. more on this story Gibson.com is an official news provider for the Day in Rock.
