Poly Styrene RIP

. (Gibson) Marianne Elliot-Said, best known as '70s punk pioneer Poly Styrene, has passed away from cancer.

A statement on her official Twitter page says: "We can confirm that the beautiful Poly Styrene, who has been a true fighter, won her battle on Monday evening to go to higher places."

Poly Styrene formed her band X-Ray Spex after seeing the Sex Pistols and broke through with the song "Oh Bondage Up Yours!" In the 1980s, Poly Styrene joined the Hare Krishnas and retreated from the music business. more on this story
