Backstreet Boy Slasher Film Coming to DVD
. Truth or Dare: A Critical Madness features the premiere acting performance of young A.J. McLean (Backstreet Boys), playing the role of a young psycho by the name of Mike Strauber. The film was voted "One of the Top 13 Slasher Movies of ALL TIME" by the Top 13, finding company with Psycho, Halloween, Scream, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Emmy-nominated makeup artist Steve Prouty got his start on Truth or Dare, and has sinceworked on Hollywood blockbusters such as Zombieland and Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes. Likewise, pyrotechnician Bob Shelley went on to work on such movies as JFK, Zombieland, and Teen Wolf (2010). Truth or Dare was among the earliest independent horror films to be distributed straight-to-video, establishing a trend that has allowed independent filmmakers to bring their films to audiences when they might otherwise remain unseen. The original VHS release sold over 30,000 units in its first year and inspired two sequels, Wicked Games (1993) and Screaming For Sanity (1997), along with one unofficial sequel Writer's Block: Truth or Dare 2 (1996).
