Introduced by a mutual friend in January, Curiel and Buckner began exploring the idea of making music together. Curiel called in his longtime friend Loeffler, with Rossi joining the crew in June. The innovative band's MySpace page features the spanking new musical gems "Live Again" and "Where I Want to Be." Both songs give a glimpse of the anthemic rock Daylight Division will be unleashing when their forthcoming album debuts in 2010. The songs feature inspired musicianship, combining one part strut, one part sincerity and all parts rock.
Both new tracks are produced and mixed by Jay Baumgardner, known for his work with Seether, Evanescence and Helmet, to name a few. Baumgardner's working history with both Buckner and Curiel (Papa Roach and P.O.D, respectively) lent a familiar feel to the sessions. Daylight Division is currently unsigned and is in beginning talks with record labels. The band had this say about their new venture: "Some may call this project a 'Supergroup,' but it feels more like a band of mavericks! Our sound isn't necessarily what you would expect given our collective musical pedigree. It's a common ground we found the old-skool way, getting in the same room and jamming. It's exciting to bring in musical influences we all share, but haven't had the opportunity to draw on before now. It's exciting to be part of something totally new.
The talent and past success the members of Daylight Division bring with them to this band is not to be underestimated. They all hail from multi-platinum selling bands: With P.O.D, guitarist Curiel has released seven studio albums, received 3 Grammy nominations and sold over 10 million records worldwide. Loeffler, who formed the band multi-platinum selling band Chevelle with his two brothers in 1994 was the bassist for the group before his departure in 2005. Buckner, who departed as Papa Roach's drummer in 2008, was a founding member and an integral part of the band, which recorded 5 albums, sold over 10 million records, and earned 2 Grammy nods during his tenure. Lead vocalist and platinum selling Canadian recording artist Lukas Rossi is no stranger to the music world. As the winner of a worldwide audition of 22,000 vocalists (televised for CBS' Rock Star: Supernova), Rossi is best known as the lead vocalist for the arena- headliners Rockstar Supernova featuring Tommy Lee (Mtley Cre), Jason Newsted (Voivod and formerly of Metallica) and Gilby Clarke (formerly of Guns N' Roses).
Despite all this, Daylight Division isn't resting on their well-earned laurels. While they couldn't be blamed if they wanted to coast a bit, it's the furthest thing from their collective minds. With "Where I Want to Be" and "Live Again" getting ferocious play on MySpace, this band is more than inspired. Playing serious rock n' roll and unveiling more new music, Daylight Division is in it for the long haul.
