The band has been working with producer Rick Rubin, and in various interviews, they have dropped hints that the new material harkens back to their thrashier sound from the '80s.
Speaking to BBC 6 Music recently, drummer Lars Ulrich said, "We're just finishing up a record, we've got six weeks left and it should be out in September. That's the idea right now."
