Rubin loved that end result so much that he signed the band to his American/Columbia Record label. We are beyond proud to speak with Jimmy this week as he tells us a bit about some of his favorites songs on the album. Plus the label wanted you to hear each song, so they have provided streams for all of them! Because hearing is believing after all.
Here is Jimmy with Monday's song: "MERCY is the first track on our new record. This is a song that I had originally written in 1990 or 91. It was called Ours, and kind of where I got the idea for the band's name. We hadn't played it for a long time, but Pit kept asking me to work on it again so I did. This is the result."- The album is in stores on Tuesday, but you can listen to this song right here
Here is Jimmy with Tuesday's song "Murder": The main riff to MURDER was part of the newly written Mercy. The song was very long, and we played it for even longer live. When Rick heard Mercy he didn't hear the song being as long as we did, so he asked me to cut it down. By the time we got it to where he was happy with it, the riff barely existed. This was disappointing to me, so I wrote an entirely new song (Murder) based around the riff. listen to this song right here
Here is Jimmy with Wednesday's song: Ran Away To Tell the World was the heart of the record as we all saw it. It was the main inspiration for us to even make this record, and what we came back to anytime we started to lose focus. It actually took 1 year to get the mix to where I was happy with it. listen to this song right here
Here is Jimmy with Thursday's song: GOD ONLY WANTS YOU is a song that I wrote and recorded during our Precious record cycle. I honestly don't remember writing it. I just remember it being there one day. We did some overdubs, and remixed it for this record, but preserved the bulk of it in its original 8 track 1/2 inch form. listen to this song right here
Here is Jimmy with Friday's song: BLACK is a song that I wrote very quickly. One morning, while we were in pre-production, I woke up early and went to the rehearsal room. I was looking to write a chorus for the song Lost, but somehow had a new song within a few minutes. This was a gift that someone dropped out of the sky for me. I worked tirelessly on the other songs for so long, and was feeling frustrated and tired. Every once in a while they give you one. listen to this song right here
