To recap this year's nominees are Madonna, The Beastie Boys, John Mellencamp, Donna Summer, Leonard Cohen, Afrika Bambaataa, The Dave Clark Five, The Ventures and Chic. After voting by the aging hippies that vote on such things, five of these acts will make the cut.
Curiously absent are some acts that have had far more impact on popular music and culture including KISS, Rush and Metallica and other notable bands that were snubbed by the black tie "rock" posers were Jethro Tull, Styx, Yes, Genesis/Peter Gabriel and Electric Light Orchestra.
The inclusion of Tull in this group is a head scratcher as we have to assume the same "industry insiders" that decided that Tull deserved a metal Grammy over Metallica also take part in this crock as well. At least the crock hall is consistently clueless and worthless but the hippies turned yuppies do have a nice building to drive their SUVs to and spend their money at. After all Jann surely needs another airplane. Wait, that's not fair as the crock hall is non-profit as well as non-rock. So it all makes sense in the senseless way these people are known to operate. We wait with baited breath for Celine Dion's nomination. But at least these trend mongers help keep metal real by keeping it outside the mainstream. Fastfood for the McCrock Hall crowd, we give you the one finger salute with one hand and our devil horns with the other!
