The ceremony will begin with a drumline procession into the Peace Garden, moving directly into a performance from PAC's Kids, students of the Performing Arts Center's outreach program. Afeni Shakur will then lead guests and attendees through a prayer for peace and hope followed by the commemorative ribbon cutting. The affair culminates with the ceremonial release of butterflies to symbolize the growth and beauty of transformation.
Immediately afterward, the Performing Arts Center will host a special screening of Denzel Washington's film "Remember the Titans", the moving, real-life story of a community coming together in the face of racial tensions stemming from a Southern high school's desegregation. The event is free and open to the general public.
