On January 3 - almost 15 years and 20 million records after singer Ed Kowalczyk, guitarist Chad Taylor, bassist Patrick Dahlheimer and drummer Chad Gracey emerged from York, Pennsylvania-the band released "The River," the first single from Songs From Black Mountain, via the Internet. With its contagious melody, "The River" will hit radio on January 31.
Live's signature mix of anthemic rockers, dynamic arrangements and spiritually aware lyrics continues to grow. Songs From Black Mountain was recorded with producer Jim Wirt (Incubus, Hoobastank) at a studio in Santa Barbara in May 2005 for what became a whirlwind session. The multi-platinum band recorded all 12 of the album's songs in a frenetic burst of creativity that surprised everyone. "We haven't recorded that quickly since Throwing Copper," Kowalczyk says. "When we got in the studio, we all slipped into the zone. We were working hard, but we were completely at ease, open to each other and in the flow. Everyone was awestruck by not only how fast we were recording, but also by how good it sounded."
Live's debut Mental Jewelry featured the hit singles "Operation Spirit (The Tyranny of Tradition)" and "Pain Lies On The Riverside." The band's breakout follow-up, Throwing Copper, reached #1 on the Billboard Top 200 52 weeks after it's initial release, the first time in the history of the Billboard LP Chart and sold more than 12 million copies worldwide thanks to a trio of #1 singles "Selling the Drama," "I Alone" and "Lightning Crashes." Their third LP, Secret Samadhi, debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 and featured the #1 single "Lakini's Juice." In 1999 Live released The Distance To Here, which debuted at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 and continued to solidify the band's success worldwide with the hit single "The Dolphin's Cry" that topped charts in the U.S., Europe, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. The band released V in 2001 that featured the emotional hit ballad "Overcome", followed by Birds of Pray in 2003 with the single "Heaven" that peaked at #2 at Hot AC Radio and camped out in the top 10 for over six months. They released Awake: The Best of Live in 2004, a collection of songs and videos that highlight the band's amazing career that also celebrated their final album with Radioactive Records. They are now starting a new chapter of their career with the release of "The River" on Epic Records.
