A release date has not yet been set for the release but the band hasnt been shy about filling in fans on the details. The group issued a press release letting fans in on how things are progressing and getting them ready for the more complex musicianship and the more experimental nature of the new songs.
"We've all been stretching and growing as musicians," said guitarist Daron Malakian. "The musicianship on the new songs is more complex, more intricate and technical. We're all so excited about being in this band and about getting into the studio to start recording the new album. There are a lot of things we want to try once we're in the studio, we'll be doing a lot of experimenting with these new songs."
System of a Down have been known to take firm stands on compelling issues with they lyrics in the past. This time around, the band does not shy away from their political views, but they also strive to leave things more open to interpretation for the listeners. They also tackle non-political issues as well.
Lead vocalists Serj Tankian explains, "There's a good amount of social commentary in our new songs, as is typical with our writing in terms of lyrics. There are also songs where we deal with love, with reminiscing, relationships, politics, and funny experiences. But the thing that I find about the songs is that they're less specific, they are more open to interpretation, which we like a lot more."
This is sure to excite System fans, but when can they expect the new CD? An official release has not yet been set, but we do know that it will be released by American Recordings / Columbia Records. antiMUSICs Argie Plakas spoke with Tankian recently and he said we can expect a release, Sometime this year, near the end. Once we have something more solid to report, well pass that along.
