However, this tour has already sparked a bit of controversy. The band that was in the running for this slot on the tour wasnt very happy when they got the news that they didnt land it and lashed out at Devildriver.
BW&BK published some comments Maurizio Iacono, the lead singer of Kataklysm, made about losing out on the tour to Devildriver. today is a sad day not only for Kataklysm, but for real metal in general, Iacano said. No disrespect intended towards Devildriver coz I dont even know the guys personally except for the fact that theres an ex-Coal Chamber member... what I'm saying is s*** happens, we lost the tour... so what, business is business... but to lose it to a band that comes from the Nu-metal era is what I dont get, that style is dead and now they are trying to make themselves look real by getting on real metal tours.
If Opeth, Kataklysm and Moonspell would be on a Nu-metal tour we would all get tomatoes thrown at us, but we as real metalheads have to sit back and accept s*** like this happening to our scene... anyways politics right?
We will work something out for later next year and I hope to see all them REAL devil horns held high...
Its a pretty easy guess to conclude that Mr. Iacono has not heard the Devildriver CD if he mistook it for nu-metal. Obviously he concluded that because the band is lead by former Coal Chamber vocalist Dez Fafara, Devildriver is just an extension of that band.
antiMUSIC spoke with Dez today about Iaconos comments. He simply said, After hearing Maurizios comment from Kataklysm, I feel I need to respond. I bought your new album and I thought its great. And good luck with it. Hope to see you on the road Devildriver
