Grammy Awards Nominations Mostly An Urban Affair

The nominations for the 46th Annual Grammy Awards were announced on Thursday and offer very few surprises and no run away favorite. The Awards ceremony is set to take place on February 8th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Rap and R&B dominate the nominations.  Outkast, Jay-Z, Beyoncé and Pharrell Williams were each nominated for six Grammy Awards. The list of artists with five nominations is even larger and includes Eminem, 50 Cent, Missy Elliott, Evanescence, Chad Hugo, Justin Timberlake, Luther Vandross, Ricky Skaggs and Warren Zevon.

The �biggy� Album of the Year nominations went to Justin Timberlake for� Justified�, Missy Elliott for �Under Construction�, Evanescence for �Fallen�, Outkast for �Speakerboxxx/ The Love Below� and the White Stripes for �Elephant�.

Album of the year in not to be confused with Record of the Year and the nominees in that category are Beyoncé with Jay-Z for "Crazy in Love," Black Eyed Peas with Justin Timberlake for "Where Is the Love," Coldplay for "Clocks," Eminem for "Lose Yourself" and Outkast for "Hey Ya!"

The Best Rock Album nominations went to Audioslave, Evanescence, Foo Fighters, Matchbox Twenty and Nickelback. 

Best Alternative album nominations are Flaming Lips for �Fight Test�, Radiohead for �Hail to the Thief�, Sigur Ros for �()�, The White Stripes  for �Elephant� and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs for �Fever to Tell�.

The Best Performance by Duo or Group with Vocal nominations went to Bon Jovi for "Misunderstood", the Eagles for "Hole in the World", Fountains of Wayne for "Stacy's Mom" and No Doubt "Underneath It All".

Speaking of Fountains of Wayne they were also nominated for Best New Artist along with Evanescence, 50 Cent, Heather Headley and Sean Paul.  

Best Hard Rock Performance nominations went to Audioslave for "Like a Stone", Evanescence featuring/ Paul McCoy  for "Bring Me to Life", Godsmack for "Straight Out of Line", Jane's Addiction for "Just Because" and Queens of the Stone Age for "Go With the Flow". 

In the Best Metal Performance category: Korn for "Did My Time", Marilyn Manson for "mOBSCENE", 
Metallica for "St. Anger", Spineshank for "Smothered", and Stone Sour for "Inhale". 

The nominations for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocal went to Foo Fighters for "Times Like These", Radiohead for "There There", Train for "Calling All Angels", White Stripes for "Seven Nation Army", and Warren Zevon and Bruce Springsteen for "Disorder in the House". 

The late George Harrison received three nominations. One for Best Pop Vocal Album for �Brainwashed�, one  for Best Pop Instrumental Performance for "Marwa Blues", as well as Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for his song  "Any Road".
