Dirty Purple is the electric indie-pop debut of former Circ member, Madelin Zero. She either wrote or co-wrote most of the songs on Dirty Purple and has already made a name for herself in Europe and hopes to do the same here in the U.S. Dirty Purples over all sound is good but the song quality seems to be top heavy as the first half of the album is fairly decent but somewhere in the middle it drops off. The first track "Gold Star", which is also the current single, is a catchy tune about the celebrity life. gold star knows the wayshe wont know your name echoes the shortness of celebrity life and the fall that so many celebrities experience. "In the Morning" (2) tells the story of two people in love and how when that first feeling of love hits you can feel like movie stars. Following "In the Morning" is a breakup song entitled "Dont Talk to Strangers". I found that a little odd but its still a decent track none the less. Its coming from the perspective of a guy trying to get her back and she tells him that you did what you had to at the time, but things are different now. "Perfect Day to Love" (4) is the lovers lament for telling a loved one goodbye, and not being able to see them for a period of time. Here is where the mixed messages start coming in. Madlein seems to alternate between being strong and telling him to bugger off and lamenting the loss of a man. From reading the liner notes, and going to her site you get the impression she wants to be a strong female musical force but then she detracts from that and seems to replace herself with the one who is begging for a second chance. "Tracks like Gotta Know" (8) she begs to know what is going through the guys head. On track 11, "When the Future Comes" she ponders life in the future and if the guy would come walking back to her. This is a different message than what shed been singing previously when she wanted nothing to do with the guy. On the CD, there is a music video for "Gold
Star" and Madlein Zero is quite an attractive lady however the music video
is only so-so. Not a horrendously bad album, but one that could have done
better.
