The busiest band in showbiz award belongs to hardcore industrialists Domeshots, with a whopping 180 shows since January. How they found the time to record & release this self titled 2nd album is a question fans might ponder. But rather than sounding like something slapped together by a group too road weary to care about the important task of bottling their essence, this is a CD crafted with care and even attention to detail. Well, mostly. The last two songs on the album, sound so similar to each other, 'Hey, didn't I just hear this song?' might be the only question that goes begging for an answer. That criticism notwithstanding, even those songs are interesting, featuring a style hard to categorize. Both songs boast staccato guitars punctuated by intense, machine gun style scream singing, a pretty musical interlude that's both melodic & soothing, till break time ends & its back to blasting eardrums. In all, this is quite a good CD, with cool leads & intros, very original, hard & heavy music, clever sentiments imaginatively expressed, and little to disappoint the listener, whether new to Domeshots or a fan since "Pineapples Make it Sweeter". There is an energy displayed on every track
that's palpable, and the walls of many musical genres are masterfully scaled.
The rap metal experimentations lack the forced delivery & lame posturing
of so many of that ilk, the 'ballad' if that's the right thing to call
a tune that croons poignant sentiments in spite of the insistent riffing
& primal bass line, never degenerates into a maudlin, boring, obligatory
waste of CD space. The vocals travel the gamut from eerie & sinister
to soothing, always paying perfect complement to the threatening, growly
guitars. This will become a classic in the Domeshots catalog, it deserves
a listen.
